Supanova Sydney 2010 ... what a show!!

Firstly I have to thank my wonderful wife and fun loving nieces for all their help at the stand, as well as my brother Joe and my former partner in crime David Tang!! It was great to see so many new and familar faces at the Sydney show and my thanks to all the good people that came by to support me. It also helps to be neighboured with the uber talented (and popular) Stewart McKenney...

I'm kicking myself for forgetting my camera, 'cause the cospaly was outstanding, I was busting to meet the Immomens but I only got a very brief chat in (more gushing on my part..)

Luckily, I managed to sneak away from my stand on the Saturday, to attend a talk by the legendary Joe Kubert... wow, what a mild mannered inspirational speaker. He shared insightful knowledge, and some great old stories about his artistic journey... warmed the depths of my geeky heart.

But I gotta thank my mate Tim McEwen for personally introducing me to Mr Joe Kubert, as he effortlesly sketched Tim a sweet little portrait of Sgt Rock... then Tim also managed to get a photo of Mr Kubert and myself... Tim you ROCK!!!

MCA Zine Fair 2010

Last Sundays Zine Fair at the Museum of Contemporary art, normally boasting picturesque Sydney harbour... alas dark skys and a bit of rain. But that didn't stop a great swelling crowd !! Thanks to all who supported Rachael and I on the day!

I've always thought the story of Hades and Persphone (the abduction) was a great myth explaining the change of seasons. Here's some pics my wife shot of the piece in progress...I'm working on in at A2 size which is much bigger than I'm use to...(Scanning PAIN!!!)

Thanks to all the friendly Victorians who came round to the Littlehammer stand and made a few healthy purchases! It was our first time at Supanova Melbourne and I was impressed with the crowds, however not the crazy crowds that we experienced in Brisbane last year.

Finally, I can brag about my new kids book for Marvel. It's called "Hulk saves the day!" And I have to say that "smurfy" looking heros are a lot harder to draw than they look, but of course heaps of fun...


I should also mention that I'll be in Melbourne next weekend April 16-18 at the Royal Showgrounds promoting the new book at SUPANOVA! So if you're in Melbourne town drop by the Littlehammer stand!

OK here's the first for this weeks, weekly challenge that I agreed to do with my mate Frank Kennedy...

Laika didn't have to die
I don't make a habit of reviewing or gushing over great graphic novels. However I read Laika by Nick Abadzis this weekend and damn if it wasn't one of the best graphic novels I've read in ages. This is an emotional charged story that works beautifully as a graphic novel ... so do your self a favor .. end of gushing.

A little piece for my valentines! We've become big Trekkies (so much so that we have watch nearly all of Star Trek in less than a year... AND we met Mr Nimoy, that's not easy when you live in Australia) and I know "All our yesterdays" is one of her favs.

And I use to say that "Trek" was boring...

Washington then gave a short but impassioned speech to his officers, called the Newburgh Address, trying to persuade them to be patient with Congress. Washington, however, after finishing the speech, felt that the officers were unmoved. He then took a letter from his pocket from a member of Congress to read to the officers. Instead of reading it immediately, he gazed upon it and fumbled with it without speaking.

He then took a pair of reading glasses from his pocket, which were new and few of the men had seen him wear them. He then said: "Gentlemen, you will permit me to put on my spectacles, for I have not only grown gray but almost blind in the service of my country."

This caused the men to realize that Washington had sacrificed a great deal for the Revolution, just as much as any of them.
These, of course, were his fellow officers, most having worked closely with him for several years. Many of those present were moved to tears, and with this act, the conspiracy collapsed as he read the letter. He then left the room and General Henry Knox and others offered resolutions reaffirming their loyalty, which were accepted by the group.

Clumsy Ninja spot illo

Dr. Seuss in Wollongong

I just found out that an exhibition of limited edition artworks from the Seuss Estate will be at the Novotel Hotel Wollongong, Northbeach, Grandball room!


Here's the guff:
The exhibition housed a groundbreaking collection of 70 years of Seuss’ art history that included Illustration Art, Unorthodox Taxidermy and the Secret Art Series. This exciting exhibition of limited editions mixed in with museum panels of original memorabilia was an eye-opening experience for the general public.

BUT it's 4 days only!!! 10th December to 13th December!!!

Marvel project update

I heard the job went to print about 2 weeks ago, however still no ETA....
If it makes it to market before Christmas, well that's my chrissy present!!

This personal piece is a bit of an experiment for a possible new graphic novel. I've been collecting a lot of old children's books on fairy tales etc so I guess its rubbing off...plus my wife loves fawns and I knew she'd like it! I'll colour it when I get a chance....
